Claire was so relived that Lily was okay that she still hadn't noticed that Kara was getting worse. And if she had she would have only made it worse. Right now there was no reason to remember that her daughter was on the same track as she was. The good thing was maybe the coma had slowed the virus down, at least a little. Maybe the young girl should have stayed in it. Gosh Claire was being such a hypocrite. When Lily was in a coma she wanted her out, but now that she was out she wanted her back in. This was something no mother and daughter should have to go through. She hated it, and knew that Lily hated it just as much.
Her words nearly sent Claire back into tears, and she had just been able to compose herself. "Yes, dear, you'll walk again." She said finding it only slightly hard to sound convincing. It was true, after all, thought she wasn't any kind of doctor. For a second she wondered what they would do if she didn't walk again. Lily would never be able to do all the things that she loved. Pushing that thought away she said, "Don't worry about that, just keep remembering that cake we're going to get you." She softly touched the little girl's head.
It wasn't until Lily pointed out Kara, and asked if she was going to die that she realized the coughing. Looking over she suddenly felt terrible. Not only was she worried for Lily she was worried for Kara. For the longest time she had ignored her, and now Claire felt guilty, not that Kara would care, after all she had been through a lot in the past hour. "She''ll be fine, you both will." She said addressing both of them. Smiling at Kara she asked, 'Is there anything I can do... that I can get you?" Of course now that she had noticed Kara she didn't notice the federal agents out side the glass, two of which she knew from Charlie. If she had she certainly would have broken down. Matt didn't need to see Lily like this, it would break his heart. Little did she knew it already was.
------------
Kate slowly stepped back when Matt ordered her to. There was no reason trying to help a guy that didn't want help. He could work it out himself, if that was what he wanted. Actually it sounded like something Kate might have done if she was in that position. Of course she barely knew Lily and Claire, having just joined the bureau a few months before he died. But because it seemed him and Matt were such good friends, and she ended up being Matt's partner there was connection. Of course she did feel sorry for the little girl. All she could think about was when she lost her family, what it would do to poor Claire, that was if the older women lived through this. Some how Kate didn't see how sitting in a room with two sick people could be good. Then there was Kara who Kate actually cared a lot for, even if it seemed the two didn't get along, and in truth they didn't. But no one got along with Kate.
Turning away from Matt she went over to Morgan and Hotch, who were talking to a doctor. Jack was also there, her actually boss. Thought she didn't treat him like her boss because she didn't care. She only treated Matt like her boss when it matter, when his life was on the line. She never went undercover with Jack Duncombe even if he was the head of CT. But if she did she would give him the respect he needed, at least as much as Kate could. As far as she was concern he was just another agent in the unit. "He wanted to be alone." She said kind of coldly, protecting Matt from any more people bothering him. "He knows both the victims.' Then she added. "And I don't think any doctors can be spared... or have you not heard we're under attack? A virus that's killing people!" There was no mistaking the anger in her voice. After all this had started several hours ago but he couldn't have gotten here. What if that cost some one there life. Their job was to stop things like this from happening, and though she loved the fact that he was actually there for his kids she hated the fact that he could get to work when it really was needed.

OOC: I'm doing a bit of a time lapse with Haley, Reid, Krys since Reid is infected... I hope that's okay.))
“What’s happening?”
Matt felt his throat burn from the frequency of his own coughing and cringed. His hands found their way to his upper thighs as he leaned forward, desperate to find some sort of balance. His fingers gave his legs a squeeze. He knew that Kate and his best friend was at his side but it was little comfort, especially have seen the sight that he had.
"Claire's in there... Lily..." He managed to get out breathlessly. Claire had been a friend of the CT since her husband's death and likewise was Lily, a delightful little girl who was so filled with life. The shock had been almost too much to bare but at least Jack would understand. They were best friends for a reason though they didn't exactly advertise it, it was just something that was assumed. He couldn't find the heart to inform Jack that Kara was in there too, then his friend would have suspected something when there really was nothing to suspect. Just friends. Nothing more. Deep down Matt was greatful that Hayley wasn't around to take notice of the display.
When Jack rushed off to fetch a nurse Matt immediately straightened, his face red and strained, but he was trying. "I'm fine!" His best friend ignored him and he found himself stumbling forward, slowly regaining his composure. "Jack I'm fine!" He announced gruffly, this time with a bit more firmness to his voice as he reached out to grab his friend's shoulder. Turning to look at Jack Matt lowered his gaze seriously. "I'm fine. I'll walk it off."
Just then his phone rang, nearly the exact same time as Hotch's. He gave the man an unsure glance from behind the screen of his contamination suit. This couldn't be good. Slowly he answered his phone. Hayley was on the other end and the news wasn't good. Matt's face remained serious. Stoic. And upon hanging up he looked to the group knowing that Aaron Hotchner had recieved the news from JJ. "There was an assault of the virus made on the CT lab. They got to Reid. He was brought in here ten minutes ago. Room eighteen."
Now they were definitely running out of time...
Krys hadn't been able to breathe the entire time Hayley drove her to the hospital. Though they hadn't exchanged any words the liason seemed to understand Krys' desire to go to the hospital where Spencer was harbored. The car ride had been quiet except for Krys' occasional nervous tick of sniffling and wiping at her eyes. Hayley once again was accomodating in not asking her any questions or trying to baby her. Instead she just drove.
Upon reaching the hospital they were promptly suited in contamination suits by a team. Krys remained quiet, staring blanky outward as they tugged, yanked, and shoved the pieces together. She knew that Hayley would be going through much the same process (though Krys didn't know if the liason would follow her or go looking for Jack and Matt). Right now, she just didn't even think about it. Once suited up she hurried to room eighteen, dashing the whole way (as best as she could in the outfit she was wearing). However upon reaching the door she could see Spencer's figure on the bed and couldn't bring herself to enter.
Brown eyes just stared at the door for a long time, trying to think of all the possible scenarios and always coming up with the same answer. He was alone. He wouldn't want to be alone, not in a time like this and Krys wasn't about to allow him to do anything even if it was in his 'routine'. They were making so much progress, there would be no ruining it, even now. But most of all she didn't want him to hate her.
Reaching out she pressed the blue button that caused the door to slide open and she stepped aside. She wasn't sure if he saw her or not but her heart broke to see him in such a state. Initially she wasn't even able to speak, choosing instead to look at him with gentle, lost brown eyes from the end of the bed to where he laid. She wanted to rush to him, but her feet remained glued to the spot. He wouldn't want her invading his space like that anyways.
Finally she managed to find her voice. "Hey Spence..." Came the soft little voice from behind the plexi face screen of her contamination outfit.

((ooc: So I was going to let Hotch and Morgan post before I did, because well Krys isn't the only one who's going to be sad about him getting sick, but because of Krys' pleads I'm going to post just to make her happy. ))
Reid had watched as Krys and Chez were half dragged away from the door by the men in white suits. Then they opened the door. The first thing Reid did was ask if anyone else was sick, if any other rooms had been hit, but they couldn't tell him for sure, the search was still going on. They did tell him that the chances of very many people getting sick were slim, which was good. Then the went on about getting him ready to be transferred to the hospital. A process that again seemed all to familiar and was done in a haze. By the time he had actually gotten the to hospital he barely remembered anything that had happened before. he was placed in a room by himself, but they said that he would have at least one room mate by the end of the hour. Then they took some blood, gave him an IV drip with fluids, but when the offered him morphine he quickly refused afraid of the addiction still boiling just under the surface. Even if the chances of living were slime he wanted to be clear minded. And finally he was hoked to a heart monitor.
Most of the symptoms Reid hadn't started showing yet. He was coughing a little and his temperature was elevated, though he wasn't at fever levels yet, but that was changing quickly. Over and over the young genius went over the symptoms in his head afraid that they might start showing. He also didn't want to just Lay in bed and wait, he had to keep trying to figure out what was going on, save everyone that was sick and all those that were going to get sick. Make sure Krys was safe.
And that's when the door opened, he hadn't even seen her out side the large glass window because of all that was going through her mind. But when the door opened he was brought back to reality. "Hey Spence..." She said and he sat up in his bed afraid to look weak and sick. He didn't want to scare her like he had before when the men in white suits tried to take her away and she went into a panic attack. There was nothing to be afraid of at that moment. The only thing that kept Reid from fearing her being there was the large white suit she was now wearing. Taking a big breath, and causing himself to cough a number of times, he said, "Promise me you wont ever take that suit off. Any where you go?" It was the only safe place that she wouldn't get sick. Looking around he sighed and said, "I need to get back to work... I need to finish what I had started, I was so close to figuring this out." His was no more than a quick mumble. [/blockquote]

((ooc:// I figured hotch and Morgan would want to go visit Reid, while Matt, Kate, Jack, and Chez spoke to victims? Then, eventually, Htoch and Morgan would go to interview as well? Or whatever. I'm just throwing out ideas here. Hope its okay, if its not, then ... lemme know.))
The ride in the black GMC had been silent, broken only be nearly involuntary sounds by Krys Robin. Chez's finger had traced the same pattern on the steering wheel unconsciously, over and over, a habit from being in that basement for three years. The silence wasn't out of lack of words, for the liaison had plenty, but she knew it was what krsy needed: to be given the chance to think. And Hayley thought as well: about the similiar end of her brother's life. When influenza had taken his life, she'd wished it was her. The prior week to hsi death, the ten year old had removed himself from her in that basement, unwilling to get her sick. In that damp room, he'd huddled at one end, nd she, another.
Just like Reid and Krys.
However, unlike Krys, she'd allowed him to do it, allowed him to die. Because, perhaps, death had been better than where they were.
She liked to think so, because he'd been smiling.
The arrival at the hospital was a blur, a mess of hazmat and white suits. She was used to the procedure from previous terrorist attacks and the victims visits she'd gone on with her team.At first, it had made her skittish, so many people, but she'd gotten past it and pushed it back. She'd had to. She was an expert at it now. Keepign things inside, not letting them seep through the widening cracks. While she was usually working media from back at the office, she went out on the field with them as well.
The CT's tech analyst hadn't waited for her, but she'd have told her to go ahead anyway. If her savior had surivived the shot that had killed him, she'd have wanted a few moments alone with him. Morgan and Hotch, two of the BAU agents, were bound to head in sometime. She deserved a moment or two alone. God help that girl if she took off her contamination suit, Chez would kill her herself. She should have superglued it to her. That'd have been interesting to explain to Matt, or Jack, yet she'd have done it anyway.
She nodded her thanks and offered a smile to the HazMat people as she mde her way to where she'd find Matt, Kate, Jack, and the agents from the BAU. The BAU's media liaison had informed both teams, the two liaisons making a note to keep in touch of what was happening on both respective ends.
"I'm fine!
That voice was Matt's, definitly. She'd know it anywhere. Her feet - and her heartrate - sped up. What'd he gotten himself into? She could see him, professing his welfare to both the nurse and the team leader, Jack.
Things never went easily around here.
"matt?" She asked, voice behind plexiglass. "What's going on?" She didn't fail to notice the panicked look, and then saw the victim sheet.
Kara. Lily.
And now another one that they knew.
A word with four letters that wasn't acceptable in most country clubs left her lips. "Krys is in the hospital room with Reid." She told him of their analyst's whereabouts. "We're not sure, but they think it's confined." She'd slipped into liaison mode as she noticed Agents Morgan and Hotchner looking pale and less than happy, looking two or three steps away from Krys.
"Agent Hayley Chezaneski." She said, offering a smile. "Yeah, it's a mouthfull. You can call me Chez. I was tied up this morning with the press, which is why you haven't seen me yet." She said in an offhand way. When dealing with the fiasoco that had been the island, the agents had met, but today, that time seemed ages ago.
She turned back to Matt. While she was their liaison first and foremost, she was more than able to interview victims. And, of course, she carried a gun. She'd apprehended criminals before, had gone and interviewed, been on the field. "I'm in a suit already, guys. I might as well pitch in with the interviews - it wont' be long until the media gets a whiff of this, and then you're gonna lose me. JJ is holding fort." She shot a smile towards the BAU agents before rattling off Reid's room number, and looking at Matt.
She didn't fail to notice how pale he was. Cconcern washed over her. Matt was the closest to a guy friend that Chez had, and she didn't get too close to many guys. The doubt, the lack of trust, was always there. It was the reason that she didn't go on dates, she'd never go on dates. The closest that she got to that was going out drinking with the team on the rare occasion they found the time to forget about work for ten minutes.
"You really want to do this?" She asked him quietly. "Jack, Kate, and I can handle it." She smiled. "Trust me, I'm good at talking. They even pay me for it. Not very well, but hye, what're you going to do?" Chez was compassionate - the reason she'd taken the job was to help others - probably more so than most of the agents in the buraeu, but she was known for the constant work ethic she kept up, the teasing of her teammates, and the way she was ablet o talk people's secrets out - but never her own.
"You want me to go get you something? Water, Juice? Ice cream? It does wonders." She motioned with her head towards the nurses station.
She turned to the CT's undervocer agent, Kate. It wasn't that the two didn't get along, but rather that they hadn't gotten the chance to. Kate was undercover and Hayley was in the media. When they did get the chance to talk, it was always under tense case circumstances. Over time, she hoped, any awkwardness ior unfamiliarity would disappear. Jack, the counter terrorism's team leader, looked hassled like Matt did, possibly because Matt did. He'd been harrasing a nurse when she'd seen him first.
"she''ll be alright. Krys, I mean. He ... he pushed her out of the room. She didn't get infected."

She suddenly, for the first time in her life since she was a little girl, felt awkward just standing there. It wasn't even the contamination suit's fault. There was just something about the situation: Spencer sick on the bed, her far away (which really only was a few paces). It just didn't feel right. Nothing about this felt right. But was there anything she could do to fix it? No. She could fix computers, she could fix tangable data, but not people, no matter how much she lo--... Cared about them. No, life could never be that simple.
The analyst had been dreading the worst, but luckily her friend sat right up alaying some of her fears that he would be a complete disaster. Of course he looked an awful mess but still, he was moving which meant he was breathing and functioning. A good sign. The words he had told her beyond the other end of the plexi glass still stuck with her. He had deliberately pushed her out of the room to save her. It just didn't make sense. She couldn't possibly comprehend why he would do such a thing. She knew that the socially acceptable thing was for her to be greatful and repay him... But how? There was no way. A life for a life maybe, but she knew that would anger Spencer more than anything. Especially if she tried to 'off' herself with something within reach, which was only a water bottle that the nurse had left behind.
"Promise me you wont ever take that suit off. Any where you go?"
Krys didn't respond at first. She really didn't know what to say. Why would he ask her to promise that? Clearly he was delerious, perhaps a fever came along with the virus? Suddenly the strings of her heart gave a hard yank and she felt pained almost like she could be sick herself. But she promised nothing. In fact the only response that escaped her lips was a quiet yet flat: "What about if I have to go to the bathroom?" Yeah, she was a real poet that Krys Robin.
"I need to get back to work... I need to finish what I had started, I was so close to figuring this out."
Spencer had taken to mumbling to himself to the point where Krys, a mumbler herself, only caught the first few words. With a heavy sigh behind the layer of plastic of her contamination suit she shook her head and took a few hurried steps toward her best friend so to tend to him.
"Spence. Stop it." Her voice had been quiet, yet firm at first but he continued mumbling. "Spence." Still more mumbling and she felt her hands move roughly to steady him by the arms so he had to look at her and stop. "Spencer stop it!" It had been louder than she had intended but she was holding onto him tightly, her brown eyes looking right into his own worried ones. A bit breathless her shoulders rose and fell from the rush of emotion that had passed through her. She hated seeing him like this. In pain, confused, upset. This wasn't a fair trade. Not at all.
"You're scaring me.." She admitted in a quiet, barely audible voice. Usually she would have hated admitting such a personal 'fault' but she had done so anyways. She often did things she told herself she would never do when in the young genius' company. With a weakened expression Krys now looked more confused than upset. She simply couldn't understand why he would have done this to himself. Let alone why he told her not to take off her suit wherever she went because what her gameplan was, she figured, was painfully obvious. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying with you."
"Matt?"
The voice broke him from any bitterness or frusteration that he had been showing. His eyes, weakened from his earlier coughing fit, glanced up toward the plexi glass to see her. Oh god. Even in a contamination suit she was beautiful. His brow furrowed as if about to say something but no words would come. What could you say in this situation? What could he say to make her see that he wasn't completely incompetent? The answer was not much. Ah well, she was unattainable anyhow. So what if she thought he was a failure, an old lug, just a country bumpkin? Join the rest of the club.
"Krys is in the hospital room with Reid."
This sentence seemed to prod a response right out of Matthew as he kicked right back into mode. "She what?" Long strides approached the plexi glass and he was practically glaring at her. Oh how quickly things changed. "Who let her go and do a dumb thing like that?" His eyes tried to drag a response out of the woman but came up with nothing. Suddenly he had a horrible headache. Both of these women were going to be the death of him someday.
"No. No! You go and get her right now!" He knew this wasn't Hayley's job and that Krys could be wherever she damn well pleased, but still Matt was concerned and protective of her. He couldn't help it. This was more stress than he needed, and he went up against terrorist cells every other week! With a loud groan mixed in with a sigh he rested his hand against the plexiglass and his forehead soon joined it. He was feeling older every day.
"You want me to go get you something? Water, Juice? Ice cream? It does wonders."
Matt's eyes snapped up, not accusingly but there was a sense of tired urgency to them. "I want you to go and get Robin right now." He knew deep down Hayley wouldn't do it. She wasn't a babysitter and neither was he. Once again Matt felt like his world was crashing down around him. He needed to be protective of his team, some more than others. That was what he was good for. They were his family! Hopefully Hayley wouldn't take anything he did too personally... He actually cared what she thought.
"She''ll be alright. Krys, I mean. He ... he pushed her out of the room. She didn't get infected."
"Reid did that?" The CT agent questioned with a raised brow, momentarily distracted in his surprise at the boy's heroism. "Spencer Reid? Boy Wonder?" He blinked, actually shocked by this. He was glad that the boy had done it but why? Of course he knew why, everyone seemed to except for the girl of his affections. What a tangled web that was! Still, Matt was greatful that Krys was alright. "Perhaps the kid isn't too bad afterall." He murmured aloud, almost thoughtfully.
But this moment was shortlived. There was so much going on and he could barely process it all. Matt shook his head, pushing away from the plexi glass giving them both space.

Reid smiled as Krys made the joke. It wasn't what he was hoping to hear, but he trusted her. He thought that she knew how important it was to him that she stayed healthy. He trusted that she wouldn't do anything stupid. It comedy was welcomed with open arms. He needed something that was funny to keep him going. Everything here was so serious and down right depressed. Most of all was the HazMat suits. Not only was the sight of them menacing, they were all white and everything was to plan. Everything just melted into one picture of black, white, and a swirl of grey. The image sent shivers down Reid's back.
A million things went through his head. He knew what he needed to do, and he knew how he could do it. He was ready to get back to work, even if he had to stay in quarantine. He figured the best way to prevent anything from happening was to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. He did that they would find a cure, and even more important they would get the UNSUB and lock him up where he could never hurt anyone again.
"You're scaring me.." The words stopped him right in his tracks. He looked at the young analysis and stooped moving, thinking, and speaking at the same time. Slowly he came back to himself and looking away for a moment said, "Sorry..." He looked back with pleading eyes. He knew what this was doing to her, how much she cared about him. But he also knew that he couldn't stop being him. And he was the investigator that worked even when he was sick, or held captive by a man with three personalities. "I'm sorry but the only way to ensure I live..." he felt sick when he said this. "...is to keep working.... I have to figure out where the UNSUB is.... I was so close." He repeated, maybe becoming a little unstable. That was another thing he wasn't going to say because it would scare her even more, was that he needed to work while he was still clear minded enough to.
-------------------
Kate could tell that Matt was losing it. There was to much going on. He was worried about Lily and now Krys, even though there seemed to be nothing to be worried about. She was just visiting him, how was that different than them going into talk to the victims? It wasn't. The only thing was Matt didn't want her in the field. The one thing he wasn't getting was she had almost been infected because she had been at the office, so what was the difference with her being here rather than there. At least here she had a MazMat suit that would keep her safe. She didn't say anything at first, however. She knew that he wouldn't listen to her anyway. It wasn't until he became completely hysterical and order Chez to go and get Krys out of there that she realized that some one had to say something. Sure Hayley could take care of herself and deny Matt just as well as she could, but Kate also knew that he was going to go wild at any opposition. And if he was going to be mad at anyone she figured that it should be the girl he was always mad at anyway.
"Matt!" She said sternly stepping in front of him. "You can't do that. Their friends, Krys can visit her friend in the hospital if she wants to. You can't always tell her what to do, just because you think its the right thing. Your not always right! Let her make a few chooses on her own for once." She said as loud and bossy as she could, which wasn't that hard for her. What was hard was knowing that she was betraying the one person she actually looked up to, even if no one knew that.
"Reid did that?" Kate felt kind of hurt by the words. Not to long ago he had saved Kate's life when she had hurt her head after the plane crash. Not that she remembered the situation all that well, but she knew it was him that had brought her back to the land of the living, as much as hearing Matt's voice, and Tori's solution that stopped the bleeding for the most part. Did that mean nothing to him? Unconsciously she placed a hand on the back of her head where you could feel the scar. Kate knew that his relationship with Krys was special and Matt and Kate didn't always get along, but was Krys really that much more important than she was? She pushed those thoughts aside, after all her goal in life was to have no working relationships with any one so she should be upset about that. And brought herself back to the propose at hand. "Now, if you want to worry about Krys, then you can, but we still have hundreds of people dieing so I think we should get to those interviews." She said looked at Chez and Jack as well. Of course Morgan and Hotch would want to go see Reid and she was okay with that. ((ooc: So I'm thinking we should make to different threads, one for Reid's room and one for Lily and Kara's room because not everyone is in both. My suggested would be next time around we just make a new thread.....))

She furrowed her brow, catching Matt's eye for a split second. He couldn't honestly ak her to drag Krys out of that room. it wasn't that she wouldnt do it if her friend was in danger- she was more than capable of it. But Krys wasn't in real danger, no more than they would be. The suit presented that.
"Look. I can't do that. Not again." She felt Jack and Kate's eyes on her, questioning. "Earlier, she wouldn't leave. Hazmat made sure we did." The unspoken statement was there - that they'd been dragged away. Hayley knew Matt's... incident... with Krys' father, and knew that he'd know exactly what had occured while Krys had been dragged away. "But we're fine. As you can see." What he wouldn't know was the way that she herself had felt being grabbed - the memories it had reserfaced. No, that was to be kept internal. "She's not going to take off the suit, Matt." Chez said, without the rougher tone her voice had held previously.
"Reid did that?
"He cares about her. My border collie could deduce that."And he chases his own tail and spooks at things that aren't there. And tries to herd cars."As I said, I'm here. I'll interview with the three of you so they can visit."
Guilt swarmed her. She'd only been there seconds before. If only she'd known, she'd have stopped it. Why hadn't she stopped it? You can't be responsible for everyone, Chez. The words of her savrior were recalled. She'd only been twelve, but her childhood had been over at nine.
She knew there was a press conference early the next day, and that the media would most likely get ahold of the new attack before then. She'd have damage control to do, and alot of it. It would involve keeping her cool, which she was good at. She had to be good at that.
While her team often were undercover, she'd never been that way. She'd spent too long in hiding, literally in a basement, for the early years of her life. She was the opposite, the one who always was in the news, the one who had the most paperwork. Add that to the duty of joining her team - though lesss often than others - in kevlar vests (much like JJ of the BAU did; the two agents had talked earlier), to apprehend one of the men her team had been investigating, she had alot on her plate. Even on days when there was no case, she was second into the office, right after Jack - paperwork for the upcoming day.
Hence the misconception that she was a suipernatural being and didn't sleep, or, slept upside down from teh cieling of her office.
Not true, but amusing nontheless.
"She'll be fine."She said, noticing the strained look. "You're going in there, and you don't see me asking Kate to stop you".

Matt was actually caught off guard by Kate speaking up, though once his dark eyes fell on his partner he knew he should have expected it. It seemed that Kate was always yelling at him, or vice versa, why should this time be any different? But that didn't mean that he was going to simply lie down and take it. No, especially not in front of Hayley. How embarassing that would be! Being lectured by your partner who was quite a bit younger than you. Gosh, these kids got more and more daring as the days went by. Sometimes he felt more like a daycare supervisor than a professional, but that was just him being bitter so to avoid what he really needed to confront.
"Like hell she can!" He said just as sternly back, immediately dismissing what Kate had said whether it made sense or not. "Who gave her clearance? Who gave her the okay?" His dark eyes darted toward Hayley in question, not accusingly though he knew that she had been the only one around but she didn't have superiority to give those orders. The only one who did was Jack and he was further into the hospital, he would have had no opportunity to do so. "It's a complete breach of orders. She was told to remain at headquarters and if not there our Plan B." He sputtered this off like he was about to lose his mind with how frusterated these ladies were making him. Always had to do the direct opposite of what was necessary, always trying his patience.
Then he found himself saying something he would regret. Snapping his head right around to face Kate he glared. "I don't have time for your shit right now." He hadn't meant it. Not really. But she was always countering him at every corner, always giving him a hard time, and today, right now, he just couldn't take it. Instantly he felt guilty for his words and flinched slightly, but somehow managed to turn away before distancing himself from them again.
No one understood. No one cared (though it was probably best they didn't because then they would ask questions). They hadn't seen her years ago in that room when he had kicked down the door. They hadn't been with her in that interrogation room as the fifteen year old burst into tears. They hadn't heard what she said or had seen the bruises and scars. When Matt had intervened they were opened, prevalent. She had a black eye, bruises all down her arms. She wore pajamas that were far too big for her. Her hair had been messy... Some things never change. But they hadn't *seen* her. They hadn't held her when she cried and realized maybe it was the first time since she was a baby that she *had* been held. They knew nothing about how he felt. How protective he was over her. He didn't expect them to.
Staring at the ground he murmured something to no one in particular. Once again Hayley, as she had a talent for doing, snuck up on him.
"He cares about her. My border collie could deduce that."
"I knew that Reid kid would be trouble. I just knew it." He murmured softly, still with no heart to look at Hayley so he concentrated on the floor. No matter how angry Matthew wished to be he couldn't stay that way for long. The thing was you had to wait out his blood boiling, and Hayley always seemed to know just what to say and what tone to use to drag little snippets out of Matt that would have never been uttered otherwise.
"She'll be fine."
"You don't know that." He shook his head now looking right at the media liason. "You can't possibly know that." He wasn't trying to offend her but a part of him felt defeated. People were dying everywhere. People were losing people, and there was nothing that he could do to stop it. "You're going in there, and you don't see me asking Kate to stop you".
"That's different." Matt responded rather seriously, lacking emotion other than stubborness though a small part of him did a hopeful leap. Did this mean she cared? Or was she just trying to prove a point?

Matt thought that Kate was being difficult all the time, and a lot of the time she was. But what he didn't see was that he was being just as stubborn. He didn't see what she was saying, he didn't care that she might be right. He didn't even think about that. In his mind he was right and there was nothing that Kate could say to change that. And she hated that. She wanted nothing more than for him to actually respect him like his equal at least once in a while, inside of treating her like a little kid. Sure she was a few months younger than Krys, making her the youngest one of the team, but she was older than her years. It was true she wasn't the most responsible person, she was a drug addict, but he didn't know that. And she did give him good reason to hate her some times. But all in all she wasn't a naive little kid that didn't know anything, and she wanted Matt to actually understand that at least once in his life. Matthew needed to learn not the people under him could take care of themselves and that included Krys. What ever their connection was, why he was so protective of her, wasn't a reason for him to act the way he did. He needed to learn that over the years she had grown and could take care of herself.
"Who gave her clearance? Who gave her the okay?" This only made Kate more mad. Who did he think he was? "Are you talking about her job or did you not give her permission?" She asked harshly. He sounded like an over protective parent who was so protective that he was hurting his children by not letting them do anything themselves. "She has free will!" She half shouted. Softer she added. "What if it was her in that room sick? Would you wait for clearance to go see her? Hu? Wouldn't you break the rules to see your friend?" She was pretty sure he really meant that he never gave her permission to do it, to put herself in more danger, but she knew that would only make him more made, just mentioning it before was a stretch.
"I don't have time for your shit right now." The words hurt Kate even more than she would let on. For once in the last few years she let her guard drop for a second. Pain crossed her face for a moment before she pushed it away. It wasn't so much the words that hurt, though they weren't all that nice, but many the way that Matt had done it. They shouted at each other quite a bit, not always agreeing on things. But this time it was different. His voice was purely mad. Goose bumps ran through her and she had the sudden feeling like she wanted to cry, but she didn't. She was able to keep her face neutral from then on out. But what she really wanted to do was shout and yell at Matt. Call him names, then cry until she couldn't any more. The past year she had felt that she wasn't welcome, or that Matt really hated her. But this seemed to bring out his real colors. If he didn't care for what she said then that meant he didn't care for her at all.
She didn't say anything though. She know that she wouldn't be able to keep her cool if she tried. Instead she let Chez talk him down. After it seemed like she had gotten to him, which hurt her even more. Why did he care more for what she had to say then what his own partner did? Finally she figured that it was time to get down to work. They had wasted enough time. And if they waited any long Kate would only end up exploding. Turning away from them and moving closer to the glass door she said, "Okay than, I think we might want to get started with the interview..." With out waiting for a response she opened the door and walked in.

"It's different.
Chez's eyes were cold and insistant. "It's the same exact situation. You go into an infected persons room. She goes into an infected persons room." Her eyes said that she was done with this, and she knew that they didn't have the time to argue over it either.
Still, if she'd been wrong about this, and Krys got infected ... that was one more death to add to her list. Her brother, the countless victims on the cases they'd taken, people that had died on cases she hadn't taken ...
the agent.
her father, who she'd shot at the age of ten.
She didn't want the list to grow.
"Kate's right." She turned to see Matt and Jack. "Whichever way you want to do this, then."
