"You know there’s got to be a faster way to do this. How about we just change the first question to ‘have you recently dated a homicidal pyromaniac?’"

Character Name: Lance Auriel Dominic
Age: 26
Date of Birth: January 13
Residence: Mansion in DC
Profession: Forensic Linguist
Appearance: Lance is moderately tall, and due to his complete lack of any noticeable muscle accumulation, is very slender. He has light brown hair which falls around his face in a somewhat shaggy manner, and greyish green eyes which sit on either side of a decent nose behind glasses that he tries to keep remotely stylish. For some reason, he usually fails in that pursuit. So, he got contacts, but once in a while he'd wear his glasses just because it's more comfortable.
He has a tendency to wear clothes that are a couple years out of style, or completely wrong for the occasion, although he cleans up all right when someone helps him out. He tries not to draw too much attention to himself if he can avoid it, and spends a lot of his time looking at the floor in front of him trying not to trip. This gives him the appearance of being quite introverted...which is not really inaccurate.
Another interesting physical trait of Lance's is his tendency to make up some new, odd facial expression for whatever situation he's faced with. He has approximately seventeen different smiles, and more than a few bewildered expressions, along with a whole repertoire of grimaces, scowls, quizzical glances, and others. His face is a pretty good indicator of how he's feeling, as he's never been particularly good at putting up a front.
Personality: While Lance's negative traits are those that people tend to associate with him the most (his social ineptitude, his awkwardness, etc), he has redeeming qualities as well. He's extremely loyal to his friends, and once someone has gained his trust, he has been known to put his own neck on the line for them if the situation calls for it. He is also highly determined, to the point of obsession, and if something catches his interest, he will put his all into it. He's extremely smart, particularly when it comes to history, and language, a lot of which is due to his travels during his younger years.
In addition to Lance's positive aspects, though, he is also incredibly scatterbrained. He forgets things, loses things, breaks things, all because he can't seem to stay focused on things that aren't academic. He is socially awkward, and isn't terribly outgoing, so whatever new friendships he gains are usually the result of someone choosing to reach out to him, not the other way around. He's pretty scrawny, too, and rarely works out, so he's not exactly the kind of guy you'd pick to have your back in a fight. Neatness is not a strong point for him, either: his room looks like a complete disaster zone.
Lance also has a tendency to develop hopeless crushes on girls way out of his league. He can be a sweet guys sometimes, no doubt, but he's not the most liked person around. Actually, he's up for just about anything you could throw at him, but don't be expecting any incredibly amazing romancing or wooing to be coming from him.
History: Lance was raised by his grandfather after his parents were killed in a somewhat unlikely accident during a vacation to the Alps. He was really too young to remember the incident, so he wasn’t particularly scarred by the experience. All he knew was that for as long as he could remember, he’d been on the move. His grandfather traveled to a number of places, never stopping for more than a year and a half in any one place.
Lance began to study and learn the languages of the places they visited. He started with Latin, and that basis made it somewhat easier for him to master Spanish, French, and Italian. Portuguese followed soon after Spanish, and during a sojourn to the Eastern world, he learned Japanese. German and Dutch were his souvenirs from Holland, and Russian and Serbian were added to his repertoire after their stay in central Europe. Along with that, of course, he speaks English, as well as some Native American dialects he learned simply for interest's sake. Other people collect stamps or action figures; Lance collects languages.
It was also with his grandfather that Lance would make the discovery of his life. They ventured around the world with a couple of other people. Lance held his own, helping out with languages and such, and actually was the one who helped his grandfather solve some key things in their documentation. They spent long enough in nearly every country for Lance to make friends but not long enough to keep them.
When Lance's grandfather died, it was a turning point. Besides which, his grandfather had made it clear that once he died, he wanted Lance to complete his formal education, expressing some regret for having carted his grandson all over the world in what could hardly be described as a stable environment to grow up in, so he was sent to a rather expensive high school to finish his schooling. Having made his way through various grades at schools around the world, he has played catch up in some subjects, and has been bored out of his mind in others, primarily history and linguistic ones.
He passed college and university easily, and life has been rather simplistic. Out of all the jobs someone like him could choose, he chose to work in forensic linguistics. His career has been going well, but in the meantime, he's been trying to improve his social standing a bit. This has not been going so well for poor young Mr. Dominic. The last time he tried to kiss a girl, he threw up on her shoes. So he stuck to his job instead.
Likes: Language, discovery, his friends, girls (though without much luck), history and facts.
Dislikes: Storms, murders, laziness, his glasses.

Weaknesses: His social skill, scatterbrained, weak (physically), awkward, shy.
Parents: Audrey and Leonard Dominic
Siblings: None
Spouse: Single
Children: N/A
Anything Else? Lance is allergic to almost everything, and he's very sensitive to dust. Most people find this very annoying as he can suddenly burst out in a fit of sneezing during the most inappropriate times.
Roleplay Sample: Spock leaned back in his chair and sighed deeply, relieved that his work had finally been completed – right on schedule. Normally he didn't finish his work by the time his shift had ended, but the work day had been a slow one and he hadn't had much to do. For some reason, Spock hadn't been able to focus on his work today. His mind had been on other things . . . most of which had to do with Uhura. She had been on his mind for weeks now; he couldn't hope to rid his thoughts of her. Spock had seen her exit the bridge out of the corner of his eye just a few moments earlier, heading for the turbo lift. Perhaps he had time to catch up with her. Spock had a strong urge to see her; it was odd and out of place, but he welcomed it. Any chance at being with her was one that he had to take. He still felt as if something were out of place – like their relationship still hadn't been completely mended. Spock had to make it up to her somehow, and he didn't necessarily know how.
Pushing back his chair, Spock stood from his seat and made his way towards the turbo lift, his pace somewhat rushed. Having run into one of his colleagues, the commander mumbled a rather aggravated apology and continued without a second thought. Uhura was probably long gone by now. But when he rounded the corner, Spock caught sight of an all-too-familiar face and a wave of relief washed over him. Uhura had been waiting for him, which meant that she wanted to see him as well. That was a good thing, he supposed. Uhura leaned against the wall, her gaze abstracted, a smile upon her face – probably lost in thought. Spock couldn't help but admit to himself that it was a very intriguing sight. But then again, quite a lot of odd thoughts had crossed his mind today. Did he feel something more for Uhura than he had yesterday, or was it merely a misinterpretation? Either way, Spock had his mind set on talking to her, and so he took a step nearer.
”Nyota,” he said quietly, his hands unclasping and falling to his sides. ”I trust your day was satisfactory. You appear to be rather . . . cheerful.” Spock managed a slight smile, which looked more like a smirk than anything else, but he didn't take another step closer. Although he had that odd longing to take her in his arms, it would be inappropriate when in the presence of their co-workers. Spock didn't even know why the thought had crossed his mind. He was behaving so stereotypically male lately. It made no sense.
