"You know there’s got to be a faster way to do this. How about we just change the first question to ‘have you recently dated a homicidal pyromaniac?’"

Character Name: Matthew Grimaldi
Age: 42 years old
Date of Birth: January 1st
Residence: He usually resides wherever the job requires him to, though he has both an apartment in New York City and a home on South Africa (where his parents were from).
Profession: FBI Counter Terrorism Supervisory Agent
Appearance: Matt is a type of guy who looks decent unkempt. And with his position within the FBI, not to mention his reputation, he never gets docked for it by his superiors. He can often be found walking into work wearing a nice pair of jeans and a clean t-shirt with a blazer over it (that's when he isn't undercover or called in last minute). He is definitely not a tie kind of guy however.
He is around the age of forty so he doesn't have thick, luxurious hair, but he isn't bald either. He's found a happy medium that seems to work for him. He isn't extremely toned but he's certainly not tubby either. In some ways he looks like a man that you could pass by in the bar, and that works for him. Though many choose to at least acknowledge him because he looks friendly and like your average every day fella.
It was once stated, in jest by his team member Krys Robin that: "Grimaldi looks like a fratboy 20 years out of his prime... But in a good way!" And of course, Matthew had a good chuckle about that one.
Personality: Matthew is a very serious man when it comes to his work (whether it has to do directly with Counter Terror or any undercover missions he has to take part in). He can be a workaholic and often stays many nights until the job is done. He is by no means a perfectionist, but his drive to help people and his loyalty to his team is that strong.
Though he's not an outright touchy sort of person, he does care a great deal for the members of his team and will protect them at any cost. He will put their needs/life before his own without a moment's thought which occasionally gets him in little spats with the team's unit leader and other superiors. His fierce loyalty also drives quite a few of his arguments.
He tends to be rather soft spoken in certain situations but can be a bit more talkative around his team or during a 'mission'. He does what needs to be done no questions asked. He'll go out into the world 110% constantly.
Matthew has a strong empathy for women, especially ones suffering from domestic abuse. He was raised the only boy of two sisters, and one, Jill, was murdered when she was pregnant by her husband who then killed himself. Oddly enough, he also has a soft spot for children and secretly wishes he could have some one day, but unfortunately his profession doesn't exactly give him the option to settle down nor an environment safe for kids.
History: Born in the country in the middle of the United States to two scientists Matthew was the product of a mix of logic and good country upbringing. The middle child out of three he had an older sister Jill and a younger sister Tess whom he spent a lot of time with being off in the middle of nowhere before his schooling years.
His father conducted most of his experiments in an old run down barn in their HUGE backyard so Matthew was brought up as a hardworking boy who had chores and homework to keep up with. His mother, a biologist, kept a makeshift zoo of exotic animals mixed in with ones more regular (horses and dogs) and this is probably where Matt inherited his love for animals.
Matthew was only a decent student but he was a well behaved boy despite the fact that he was on the football and baseball teams (varsity) and those crowds could get rather rambunctious. Not to say that he was never involved, but he never got caught. He also managed to occupy his time with learning the guitar. His teachers loved him and in a town where everyone knows everyone else (and their business), that's a good thing.
It was from his interest in a life outside a small town that he pursued schooling in the city to be an officer of the law, which eventually led him to his FBI training (as he scored high on exams and had a pretty athletic build still left over from highschool sports). Also aiding him in this calling was his need to help anyone in trouble, whether it be through studying or force, and he often spent many nights just hanging around the local PD just to learn from the best (while bringing them coffee).
It was on the day that he recieved his badge that he learned his older sister, dear Jill, was killed by her husband in a murder suicide. Since then his drive has been much stronger and he'll go out on a limb in order to help anyone, especially women. Since this loss he has become even closer to Tess, often sneaking off to make a phonecall to her at least once a day, even if it means locking himself in a broom closet so whoever he is working with doesn't pester him or make fun.
It was after ten years as an officer (and five more in Undercover Services) that he was eventually asked to apply to work for Counter Terror, a job he eventually secured. He has been working there for ten years, and was a lower agent during the 'September 11th fiasco' and was able to pick up on everything that could have been executed better that day. Eventually he was rewarded for all of his hard work with a stable position on the main team there where he works alongside with Krys Robin and the recent addition, a young woman named Kate.
Matthew tends to go out on a limb to be the hero without even realizing it. This gives him respect among his teammates but not with his superiors. He has often been pulled aside to be lectured but never fired. He has a good heart, and has always meant well.
