Under The Radar

[Kate Saunders]

Kate sat at the large briefing table with her feet on it as she leaned back in her chair as far as she could go. She watched Matthew, the man she called her boss, as he explained the next case to them. Krys was sitting a few chairs down. This mission was only them. No one else. And that was the way Kate liked it. She really didn't mind working with a large group of people, but she preferred to be undercover with only one or two people watching her back. When undercover she was able to be more of herself then anyone knew. With out the consent strain of being an FBI agent she was able to relax and enjoy herself a lot more. The only problem was that you were constantly being watched. There were always times when you could slip out of view with out to much worry of being missed.

This time it was her and Grimaldi going under. Their mission was to stop a very really terrorist attack from happening. Because it was so really the department thought it would be best to only place a few people on it, so not to make any of the cell suspect something was wrong. How they were going to do this was they were going to become arms dealers. They had contacted the cell a few days ago and they just agreed to by from them. That meant that the two of them were now going to be deep inside the cell, and hopefully they could figure out all the links to the cell and shut them down before they were able to do anything.

Half heartedly Kate said, "So I'm going to be Kate Moore, your... Daughter? Friend? We can't be a brother-sister arms dealers company can we, Boss?" She laughed slightly knowing that Matt didn't enjoy jabs at his age. Knowing that Matt must already have a pretty good cover story for them she left it alone and went on to some of the other details. "They are home grown terrorists. We know that there is at least five of them, maybe more in hiding. The apparent leader is on called Lemme, or at least his the one that contacted us about the "toys". Then there is is sister girl's brother Johnny, his friend Michael, and two unknown guys that we have seen associating with Lemme and his crew. Where and when they are hitting is still a mystery." Her words were plan with not much emotion, like all this was just a days work, and to her it was.

OOC: Matthew isn't the boss... He's basically what Derek Morgan's rank would be (which is what I used except for counter terror). Um, I can work around it though. Just wanted to point that out.. Like he's not the team leader.. But for undercover I guess he can be since he has more experience than Kate.))

Matthew was a bit surprised when the Supervisor of their team handed down an undercover mission with only three names on the file: His, Kate's, and Krys'. Without all of his prior cop training he wouldn't have been able to hide his surprise initially, but luckily he got by. So, it'd be just the three of them. This should be interesting.

He hated how utterly weird and unaffective he felt rattling off the 'game plan' and the situation to just Kate and Krys who knew him as a team member and not a captain or anything of that nature. He also hated this whole 'public speaking' thing and feeling like he was the jerk with the power, when really he'd rather be the listener. He couldn't help but feel that everything he was saying was idiotic and was something that the two young women could read on a file. Still, orders were orders and he was relieved when that portion of the routine was over.

"So I'm going to be Kate Moore, your... Daughter? Friend? We can't be a brother-sister arms dealers company can we, Boss?"

"Yeah. I get it, I'm ancient." He commented curtly to her remark with a nod as he moved to the front end of the table, his palms resting on the wooden top. He was used to people poking fun at his age, even though he was only forty two and that wasn't exactly old (last time he checked). Then again, with these young firecrackers surrounding him he was surprised that he had lasted this long. This was the new generation of the FBI: Be afraid.

"And though I'd absolutely LOVE having a father/daughter arms business..." His voice oozed of a rare showcase of sarcasm. He could poke fun right back, let it be noted. "I believe Robin's got our histories all sorted out." Clearing his throat he turned his attention to Krys, who was leaning back in her chair, currently trying to keep a piece of paper floating in the air by blowing on it. "Do what you do Robin."

"Right. Um..." Krys darted up in her chair having been dragged into the spotlight and now on the edge of her seat automatically began to sort through various papers she had in the folder in front of her. "David and Elizabeth Ruseau." She declared aloud sliding a sheet of paper to each of them before giving a bit of a smirk. "Husband and wife arms dealers. There's something sexy about that." Yeah, that'd probably irk the hell out of the both of them but they'd get over it... Eventually.

"You'll be able to contact me, obviously, if you get into a jam. I'll be around with my trusty laptop ready to google just about anything you may need." She added with a proud little smile, drumming her hands on the tabletop.

((ooc: I knew he wasn't the main boss. but I just figured hew as higher than Kate. And even if he isn't it still is in Kate's character to call him Boss.))

Kate smirked at the sullen response to her jab. Kate felt pretty good about herself. What was odd was that for once Krys didn't join in the fun. Not that she really cared it she did or not. When Matt poked back at her she stuck her tung out at him. Of course the two of them didn't look anything a like, but a lot of times that didn't matter. She actually found his joke funny. Why would she want to be his daughter anyway!

Eager to hear who she was going to be playing she quickly looked to Robin, who looked startled that they would need her to be paying attention. Its not like it looked like Kate really cared with her feet on the table, but at least she wasn't playing was a piece of paper. Elizabeth was her name, she could deal with that. Lizzy, yep thats what she would call herself. She smiled at the thought of that. The next things sent her nearly falling out of her chair. Trying to regain control she placed her feet firmly on the ground and looked at Krys with wide eyes. Then she looked at Matt. Then back to Krys. "Him? I have to be married to him!" Looking back at Matt she added. "His half my age? How do we explain that?" Suddenly she got an idea. "Oh no... I'm not "that" kind of person?" She said that like everyone knew what that was. She then groaned and placed her head in her hands.

Sighing she looked back up at Matt finally get over the shock she realized that she was going to have to do this whether she like it or not. "So, dear, do you want to get our stories straight?" She said in a mock sweet and loving voice. Even if she wouldn't admit it, she would rather go under with Grimaldi then anyone else. At least she knew he had her back all the time. She really didn't give him enough credit. But that was against her bad boy attitude.

"Him? I have to be married to him!"

"Don't look so thrilled." Matthew commented in a murmured voice as he picked up the file that had been previously slid over to him. It was just another undercover mission to him and he was willing to do anything to help someone out, regardless if he knew them or not. Though deep down his pride took a little blow that Kate didn't even want to be 'pretend married' to him. Hurt his pride a tiny bit even though Matthew didn't think of himself as the marrying type.

Out of a little envelope he pulled out a simple wedding band, his only costume piece for this mission. They really wanted you to look the part, down to the tiniest, intricate detail. For a moment he stared at both of his hands and tried to figure out which hand and finger it belonged on.

"He's half my age? How do we explain that?"

"Clearly, Elizabeth is attracted to older men." Krys responded rather calmly, though there was a hint of a smirk on her face as she leaned back in her seat, terribly proud for whatever reason. "Enough to sell illegal weapons with him anyways." She held all the cards in this part of the mission, creating histories and whatnot, and she took joy in that simple fact that for these few moments, people had to listen to her.

Turning her attention fully on Kate she gave another little smirk like a cat with the canary. "Did I mention you're terribly in love." With a pretty content sigh she leaned back in her seat. "Says it right on the file."

"Oh no... I'm not "that" kind of person?"

"Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore?" Krys had no idea what Kate meant by that, so she went with her own interpretation. It was better than sitting silent afterall. "Yeah." She gave a little nod before nodding toward Matthew. "He's Demi though."

"So, dear, do you want to get our stories straight?"

Matthew had still been staring at his hands when Kate turned her attention on him so he looked up rather suddenly, obviously startled from whatever he was thinking or trying to figure out. The ring still sat on the table. He usually would have smiled at Kate, but right now he was still gathering himself.

"It's um.. Pretty much summed up right here." He cleared his throat again and looked back down at the file in front of him. "Married two years. I've been in the arms business for 15. Born and raised in Israel." That was fine, Israeli accent he could do, especially if it was watered down since it stated on the file he had moved as a child. "Met you in a trip back to there when I was thirty nine.." He looked up at his partner. "How's your accent?"

Kate knew her reaction was a little mean. But she knew that Matt knew there was nothing going on between them, so why should he care if she didn't like his at all. It wasn't like it was important to the mission or anything, as long as she could keep the appearance of liking him they would be a-okay. She was a good enough actor, she thought, that she would be able to do that. After all she didn't hate the guy as much as she let on. She never let anyone know if she liked them at least a little. That was a sign of weakness that she couldn't let out.

Kate smiled at Krys' response but she wasn't done whining yet. "Just one more question.' She said carefully looking at Krys very hardly like she would killer her if her answer wasn't what she wanted. "Do I have to.... to kiss him?" She couldn't even imagine kissing her co-worker. She wasn't sure if she could do that while still maintaining the madly in love part of her cover story. "If so, just kill me now!" She added looking at Matt, wondering if he felt the same way about the subject as she did. She really hoped he did, or else that could cause some problems down the line.

"Yeah, kind of Ashton-Demi." Kate nodded not really wanting to explain fully what she meant. It didn't matter if they understood or not. She knew what she had to do to play of being in love with an older man. "He is totally Demi. I make a better Ashton anyway." She said with a smile placing her finger on her lips and staring into space all sexy like. Like the camera commercials he always does.

Kate looked at the file and as Matt, or David, read the fine points of it. She read deeper into it, getting the character down nice and good. When she looked up she couldn't help but laugh that he didn't know how to put the wedding ring on. Maybe he was better off not getting married in the first place. When he asked if she had a accent she had to stop and think a little while. She was good at most accents, but she wasn't sure if she could get that one down good enough to pull off the fact that she had lived there her whole life. Getting it down in her head she looked at Matt and grabbed the wedding band from him. Looking him in the eyes she said in the best Israeli accent she could do, which turned out pretty good, "Do you David take me to be our wife? To love and to sell guns with? Forever and ever until death do us part, or we catch the Sons-of-b****s?" Before he could answer she slipped the ring on his left hand's ring finger.

"Do I have to.... to kiss him?"

"Yeah. Thanks alot." He murmured as he pretended to look at a file. There they went. Talking about him like he wasn't even standing there. You'd think he'd get a little more respect than that, then again deep down he knew it was all in good fun but his man's pride couldn't help but be wounded a tiny bit.

Turning his attention back on the rings he let out a little sigh as the two young women continued to make fun of him. He could take it. He had in the past and sometimes he knew he encouraged it. He also probably deserved it a good half of the time. Did even pretending to be his wife disgust so many? Now, he was well aware that he was no Brad Pitt but he didn't think he was deformed either. Oh lord, now he was dwelling. He was subconciously disgusted with himself for doing so.

His eyes trailed between both hands now. Why didn't he know this? He tried to think back on his mother... Where had she worn her ring? Then his sister Jill. No, that wasn't a good topic, luckily Kate's voice brought him out of it before it was too late.

"Do you David take me to be our wife? To love and to sell guns with? Forever and ever until death do us part, or we catch the Sons-of-b****s?"

David? He blinked. Oh right, that's me. He watched with mulled over, yet confused, eyes as Kate knelt right down making a big scene. Was this really necessary? With a heavy sigh he knew there was absolutely no getting out of this because both young women would poke and prod until he gave some sort of response of recognition.

"Mm hm..." He grunted under his breath before removing his hand from Kate's grasp and proceeding to slide the ring on the rest of the way. Now he knew he was just being a spoil sport, but this was a Bureau, not a playground (though at times he wasn't sure).

"You may want to gather your things." Picking up his folder and other files he walked around the table and toward the stairs that led to the upper level and offices. Only after looking down at which hand the ring was on. The left. How about that. He chuckled a bit to himself and then disappeared into his office.

Krys' gaze moved from the stairs and over to Kate. "He's in a bit of a mood today, don'tchya think?"

Kate was smiling widely. She had thought her little marriage ceremony had been a good idea. After all shouldn't they take vows even if they were just playing like they were married. She looked at Krys and sighed. She couldn't help but feel that this was her fault. She had pushed to hard on the not wanted to be married part. It wasn't like she didn't like Matt, she just would never wanted marry him. He was just her 'boss' a co-worker. Nothing more nothing less. If they had meet before she lost her family then maybe they could have been friends, but Kate was friends with no one now. It didn't matter if they thought you as a friend or not. Some how she felt like she would have to apologize to the man.

Sighing picked up her ring and said in the best boy Israeli she could muster she said. "I do. And you you Elizabeth take me to be your husband?" Changing back to Elizabeth's voice said, "I do." Then slipped the ring on to her finger. She smiled at herself for the stupidity of what she had done, but she couldn't help herself.

"Yeah... Well I guess I'll see you on the other side." Kate said to Krys before she grabbed the folder and started after Matt. She moved to her desk, in the middle of the other desks. And set the folder down. she was going to go up to Matt's office and apologize but she couldn't get herself to do it. Maybe she would do it on the ride to their burn house, at least she hoped it was a house. She was tired of having to live in some run down apartments, so a house would be nice. Not that they would be there long, they had to go off to their first meeting with Lemme in a few hours. They only just had to drop their stuff off.

She sat down at her desk and decided to do as Matt had told her to. She pulled out her ready bag from under her desk, she always had it after all. she went undercover more than she was herself no a days. Some times it was a short one day mission, other times she could go under for a good week. She hadn't ever been deep undercover yet, they said she was to good at changing persons to have her stay one person for to long. That's why she was with Matt and the rest of their team, best though she was an undercover agent, and that was about all she could do, she was still considered a proactive agent.

She then opened the top drawer at her desk and pulled out her gun and placed it in the ready bag. She shit the drawer with out even touching her badge. They encouraged you to carry it around with you even when you were under, but she never did. You only needed a badge if you thought you would be caught by the police. And even if she was one call the the Bureau and she would be free. No need to carry around a piece of metal that gave you away as a cop. If they found it then she would be dead in seconds.

Matthew was used to this whole routine by now. Get the mission, do your research, read the files, pack up your things, and be on your way. Luckily he already had his night bad stored beneath his desk as did many of the other undercover agents that worked for Counter Terror. They were always prepared for anything, much like the motto for the boyscouts and several other helpful groups Matthew had heard of in the past. Better safe than sorry anyhow. An already packed nightbag saved you time, and time was everything in this business.

With a grunt he set his black bag on his desk, opening a drawer he removed a few things before shoving them into one of the side pockets. Being prepared never hurt but being overprepared definitely helped. Walking alongside his desk he turned a page in the open folder and looked over the file Krys had given him.

Luckily this particular 'character' didn't require any fake facial hair or any makeup, nor a costume. He could just wear whatever (perhaps dress up a teeny bit more) and the rest would rely on his act alone. Some would find this concerning but not Matthew, he projected an air of calm. He could do the 'look', he could do the accent, and by god he was gonna sell it.

He kept his badge tucked beneath all of the clothes and things in his bag. He often hid the bag too so anyone in the vacinity would have to break in to his room, then purposely find the bag, and then dig through all its nooks and crannies. It was far too much work, especially if a 'bad guy' wanted to get in and get out, as most did.

Running his left hand through his hair he sat on the edge of his desk, releasing a sigh as he studied the file one last time.

Once Kate's bag was already she opened the file and started to read it under her breath in her accent. She knew she could do it but she needed to get into character before they went out so she didn't forget to do her accent at all. Of course it had never happened before, but better safe then sorry. After she had gone throw ever detail of her new history, as well as Matt's she headed to the bathroom. Smiling she thought, My mom always told me to got to the bathroom before going on a long car trip. Inside she locked herself in her favorite stale and pulled the door shut tightly. Then she listened to make sure no one else had come in. With that she pulled out her heroin and needle and took a hit. Most people would say it was dangerous to do that in a government building, but Kate found it easy. She walked it with the drugs everyday and once a day always took a hit, some times it was at her lunch when she went out. But as fair as she was concerned a monkey could do it.

Quickly leaving the bathroom she went back to her desk to grab her things. Then she headed to Matt's office. She knocked once on the door, not waiting to be let in or not, and walked in. "You ready Boss?" It was kind of odd that Kate called him Boss, because he was only ahead of her in experience, nothing else. It would be more accurate to call him partner, or something along that lines, but she called him Boss, he looked like a boss, and acted like one. It just made sense to her that he wanted to be the boss, so that's what she gave him.

Leaning against the door frame she waited for a response. She looked like she always did, in cloth you wouldn't expect a federal agent to wear. She didn't act any different, either, having decided not to bring up Matt's hurt pride. She figured he was a big boy and didn't need to know that every girl was falling head over heels for him. He could live with her not wanting marry her, and if he couldn't then he was a bigger baby then she thought. There was no need to cause them problems, anyway, since they had to act all in love and stuff for the next couple of days at least. Kate didn't think it would take more than that. They would bring this cell down like a tower of blocks. It would be easy. Nothing to it.

"You ready Boss?"

"Mm?.." Matt had been caught up in his reading of the file when Kate had invited herself in (which only her and Krys tended to do). His dark eyes falling on hers he gave a series of quick nods. "Oh yeah. Yeah." Slipping the file into his dufflebag he zipped up the final open flap before moving around his desk and fiddling with his computer by rolling the mouse. "Just give me a second."

A few series of slow clicks and he was logged out. He didn't want anyone to see what he had been working on. Something involving domestic disputes, it of course had something to do with his sister Jillian being killed by her own husband. He still harbored resentment and any time he wasn't working he was googling information about that subject. That was one thing Krys had managed to teach the man who couldn't handle computers: The wonders of googling.

He peered up from behing the computer, currently leaning on his desk. "You get ready faster every day. A guy would think you'd be excited to leave town." Matt commented off handedly before grabbing his dufflebag and slinging it around his shoulder. His left hand rested on the rough, black strap. "Any particular reason?" His words hung in the air as he didn't look at her, making his way toward the door and flicking the lightswitch before walking out. Of course he expected Kate to follow.

Kate watched Matt as he went to his computer. She wondered what he was doing. He didn't strike her as someone who would do something illegal, especially on the clock. She know, however, that it had to do something with his personal life. He was to much of a loyal dog to let anything go. It wasn't like he meant to hold grudges, its just what he did, and as far at Kate cared it didn't matter. She didn't know much about his family, though. The only really thing she knew was that he had a sister, and went to see her or called her as often as he could. he tried to do so when no one was looking but everyone knew, there was no hiding it. She didn't care that she knew nothing about him, that meant he had no reason to know anything about her. And she had a lot to hid. Not just the fact that she was drugy, but also that she was rich, or that she almost died on 9/11 when the rest of her family died. Though she really wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know, he worked a lot on the "case" when it happened. How would he knew it was the same Family of Saunders? That was if he remembered all the names of those who died. She remembered them, but that's because she had had major survivors guilt back then. Back before she realized that she hadn't survived.

Kate stayed back in the dark room for a second thinking about Matt's question. Trying to figure out what he meant by it, if he meant anything. Gosh! The drugs were making her paranoid! With that she left the office and half ran to walk next to Matt. Smiling she answered. "This is my job. My life. I live to go new places and be different people. That's what I do." She looked at him and wondered again if he was becoming suspects of her at all, if so it was time to find a new team. Maybe it was time to request to go deep under cover. They wanted her here, but being deep under would mean she could be more of herself then she could even be here. At least when you were working with criminals they didn't mind if you were a drug addict or not. If you then they wont concerned you to be a cop. What cop does heroin? She did, what did that make her?

Getting the the parking garage Kate stopped and looked at Matt, "So, Boss, do you want to drive, or shall I." Her smile was kind of wicked. She knew what kind of crazy driving she did. She always went at least ten miles over the speed limit. She didn't care if she got pulled over, she could always use the federal agent card and get right off. No harm no fowl. She rarely ever did get caught, though, she was fast, not dumb. She knew Grimaldi hated her driving though.

"This is my job. My life. I live to go new places and be different people. That's what I do."

"Right." Matthew nodded as he walked down the hallway, Kate keeping up with him no problem somehow maintaining her perky demeanor. "And poking fun at me is just a perk, right?" God he wished that her and Krys would lay off whatever they were on: coffee, amp energy drink, and heroin (he didn't know about that last one). They always were so filled with energy and occasionally Matt felt like the uncool guidance counselor in a middle school. He felt out of place at his own job and he had been there first! Cruelty of the world, and he knew of worse things.

"What I meant is, some people don't enjoy befriending terrorists." He grunted making his way out to the parking garage, the dimness welcoming his dark eyes which only took a moment adjusting as he looked for his car. A black SUV, all agents drove them, even after the catastrophe with that cult blowing them up. Another flaw in the rules system.

"Some people actually like being themselves and meeting doctors, vets, and school teachers.. Not arms dealers." With that he reached into his pocket pulling out his key chain and pressing the button that caused his car to beep and open.

"So, Boss, do you want to drive, or shall I."

"Oh no." Matthew shook his head, standing by the open driver's seat. "My car. I drive." He concluded as though that was the end of the issue and slid into his seat, waiting for Kate to get in the passenger seat. They had this conversation every time they got in a car, and so far every time that response had been enough to win his spot. And besides, the one time he had let her drive he felt like he was going to die. Oh no, never again.

"Get in now or I leave without you."

Kate smiled and nodded. It was always better when you could poke fun at someone. She didn't even get the connect between her not wanting to marry him and the comment. It was totally forgotten in her mind for the moment. She would remember it that night, though, as she feel asleep with all the other things she thought she did wrong that day, along with the sadness of the loss of her family, eight years ago. That was one thing she hated about being undercover with someone else, especially when they had to be so close as married. Not that she couldn't take her heroin in the open, but that she had to hid her tears that she cried every night.

"Well you know, I befriend them, then I kill them.. or at least get them the death penalty. That's the good part." She smiled. This was when she wished she did tell people about her families death. Then they would know a lot more of why she liked to do what she did so much. "After all, someone has to get those terrorist before they kill thousands of people." That was what she always said. It made her sound not as much of a vitality looking for revenge as she did some sort of hero trying to save the world. And in a way she was, she just didn't think about it. "And who said I did like to meet Doctors and Teacher... well teachers I could do with out." She laughed half heartedly at her small joke.

"Yeah!' She exclaimed, though it wasn't that big a deal he didn't want her to drive. That was how it went. She never got to drive any more. "Who said it was your car, anyway. Last I checked it was the FBI's. Not Matty Grimaldi's." She didn't fight it any more and slide into the passengers seat just in time before Matt would have driven away. Yeah right, like he would leave her there. "You know, your not being a very nice husband." She pouted looking at him with puppy dog eyes.

"Who said it was your car, anyway. Last I checked it was the FBI's. Not Matty Grimaldi's."

"So I'm Matty now?" He poised, still not looking to her as his hands grasped the black wheel while Kate hopped into the passenger seat. "How'd this come about?" Squeezing the black rubber and material it felt cool against his knuckles. Sometimes a good squeeze was all that you needed to relieve tension, and a lot of tension and stress came from Kate. This wasn't neccesarily a bad thing, it kept him on his toes, but it kept his blood pressure pretty high too.

"It was my car before you got here, and it'll be my car until..." He swallowed and buckled himself in before turning the key and began to pull out of the parking space. "It'll go out with me. There's a whole bunch of other scenarios that I'd rather picture than you in this seat." Clearing his throat he moved to turn on the radio.

"Buckle up." He grunted as his radio began to play. He had always done that with Kate because neither of them, on their drives, had ever been extremely talkative. That's when he realized it wasn't the radio but his cd demo he had made with his friends of his little secret hobby and clearing his throat again he reached forward pressing the eject button. Removing the cd and sliding it into the side compartment he finally turned on the radio not caring what station it landed on as long as it wasn't hip hop.

"You know, your not being a very nice husband."

"Luckily this is just a set up." He responded calmly, despite the puppy dog eyes and pouty face Kate was giving him out of jest. Kate always seemed to enjoy pushing his buttons, why he had no idea, possibly it was much like Krys, just trying to get a rise out of him or something. His own sisters had never done that, maybe Tess once or twice, but not as forceful as Kate and Krys could be. But at times, he did enjoy it. It gave him a sense of family, something he had been lacking since he had moved, and since the incident with Jillian.

"Are you going to be this insistant the entire way?" He sighed, not taking his eyes off of the road that they were currently driving on. It was a calm pace and was a nice contrast to the fast paced life and work that they were involved in and could find in store for them once they reached their location. It always turned out like that. No matter what mission the two of them were on they always seemed to find trouble, or it ended up finding them.

Matt really seemed to be annoyed. Kate didn't know if it was really her or if he was just being a stick in the mud. She didn't really care, if he wanted to be annoyed at her, then that he was his choose, its not like she was being to mean or anything like that. She had just called him Matty, what was so bad about that? "It was my car before you got here, and it'll be my car until..." It was weird that he would say that. Until he what? Died? Some how Kate that it was more likely that he meant, Got replaced. After all he seemed to resent the fact that she was younger then him and yet a better agent, maybe that was just her being arrogant, though. He defiantly thought that she was taking over his job, though. But why should he feel that way? She had just as much right to be here as he did. And she called him Boss, that meant she thought he was higher then him, didn't he get the memo. Or did Boss mean something different in crazy town?

Kind of like a teen angry at her father she pulled on her seat belt violently. She wasn't really mad, just confused and frustrated. Matt seemed to take things a bit to personal if you asked Kate. When the music came on Kate's angry melted away. It was great. But yet Matt turned it off and slipped the CD away so she couldn't look at it. What was the big deal? It was just some good old music. Something about it was different, though, something Kate wasn't quiet getting. Kate could tell Matt was in a bad mood, whether it was from her comment earlier or not she didn't know. What she did know was that arguing in real life was only just going to make it harder to act like they loved each other. So Instead of answering his question she smiled and said, "How long do you think it's going to take to nail this guys? My bet is on 36 hours."

A moment later one of her favorite sounds came on the radio. Pain, by Three Days Grace. Smiling she turned it up a little and started to sing, in a fairly good voice, nothing you would win American Idol with or anything. "Pain, with out love, Pain. I can't get enough. Pain. I like it ruff. Cause I'd rather feel pain then nothing at all."
